Homecoming: It’s a word that’s charged with memories and images.
Maybe homecoming conjures stadium lights and hand-painted signs. Or corsages and dance floors. Maybe it’s a nod to the familiar, or to the past.
This month, the Everand Everything Club is exploring what it feels like to come home. And what better time? September is marked by both newness and nostalgia, optimism and wistfulness. We feel the sting of time as our new routines are juxtaposed with shortening days. The seasonal shift asks us to contemplate the changes happening around us and within us. Amidst all the rites of passage and traditions, we find that the most important homecoming is a return to ourselves.
In other words… it’s a whole vibe.
To help unpack and explore this month’s meaty theme, we’ll be sharing some recommendations that capture the spirit of homecoming and the soul of a new season. Here’s what you can look forward to in our September syllabus:
Required reading
Hosted by Evan Hanczor, @tables.of.contents
“Tables of Contents is a series I host that brings food and books together. Authors join to read excerpts from their work and share a meal. This list is what I would consider the Best of what Tables Of Contents offers — the required reading, if you will.”
Classics
We’re not here to judge if you skipped ‘em the first time around. But, even if you were a star student, it’s a great time to revisit these literary gems. They may hit differently now.
Banned books
Yup, that’s still happening — but not around here. Here’s a list of titles that might be hard to find elsewhere. Read them and judge for yourself.
We’re also excited to hear from you, and what you consider to be “required reading” this month — so make sure to come along for the ride on Instagram and TikTok. In this season of change and beyond, this space will always be yours. Welcome home!
